The Mont Belvieu Fire Department is dedicated to protecting he life safety of the residents in our area. But recently, MBFD was the one getting some help. Flint Hills Resources awarded a $5000 Helping Heroes grant to the department. Since its inception in 2012, the Helping Heroes grant program has awarded over $1 Million in grants across Texas to help departments with safety equipment, training, and anything else that first responders need to keep them safe and do their jobs more efficiently.
"Southeast Texas is our home and we're thankful for our first responders who provide essential services to our community," said Johnny Spell, site manager for Flint Hills Resources. "The funds distributed through the Helping Heroes program focuses on each department's specific needs and helps these men and women perform critical work for our community."
MBFD identified several needs within the department that they will use the Helping Heroes grant for. "We need to get some wildland gear to help us be better protected and move easier when we go to non-structure fire calls," said MBFD Chief Buck Leavins. "We will also use some of the grant money for a thermal imaging camera and some additional bunker gear for new members of the department as we grow."
