A recent water rate study conducted by IDS Engineering Group on behalf of the City of Mont Belvieu examined current water rates and how they trend when compared with our City’s growth. The results of the IDS study suggested that a fixed 3.75% rate increase through fiscal year 2024 – 2025 would be the best course of action based on a 7.07% customer growth to support our water utility and relieve the burden on our general fund. But, an increase isn’t as bad as it sounds; The average Mont Belvieu utility customer will only see an increase of $1.36 on their bill each month. And, by working to decrease the reliance on dollars from the general fund over the next 5 years, the City will have more money available for capital improvement projects. That means we will have more funding to put into the things that make Mont Belvieu an amazing place to live. The City’s new water rates will take effect as of October 1, 2020.
