animal Shelter information

The City of Mont Belvieu Animal Shelter is located at 3831 Perry Ave. During weekday business hours, staff does have to conduct patrols and handle animal related issues; There may be times where they are not at the shelter. If you visit the animal shelter during posted business hours and staff is not there, please call 281-576-2417. The shelter is also open on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. for visitation and adoptions.

Adoption guidelines and fees

We want to be sure that the animals in our care find loving forever homes. Therefore, we ask that those wanting to adopt a pet from our shelter adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Have valid State or U.S. identification
  • If applicable, have the knowledge and consent of our landlord
  • Be able and willing to spend the time and money necessary to provide vaccinations, medical treatment, training, and proper care for a pet
  • Not be adopting an animal for a surprise (unless parental consent has been given.)
  • Be willing to undergo and consent to a home inspection
  • Not use or plan to use the animal in a cruel or inhumane manner, including fighting
  • Abide by State statutes and local ordinances regarding animals
  • Provide proof of rabies vaccine for the adopted animal, if it has not already been completed, within seven (7) days of adoption if over the age of four (4) months
  • Provide the animal with the care necessary to give it the best chance at a happy and healthy life; this care includes annual exams, vaccinations, dental care, and additional veterinary care in the event of illness or injury
  • Agree the City of Mont Belvieu is not responsible for veterinarian bills/medication/etc. that occur after adoption
  • Agree animals can cause damage and the City of Mont Belvieu is not responsible for damage caused by adopted animals
  • Agree that adopted animals may be returned within one week of their adoption date, should the adoption not work out. Adoption fees are non-refundable. Returns of animals are subject to available space and additional fees may apply
  • Pay the $10 adoption fee. This fee must be paid at City Hall (11607 Eagle Dr.) before the animal will be released to the new owner.

One of the best things people can do is donate pet supplies to help us take care of the animals at the shelter. Our biggest needs are:

  • Wet/Dry Dog food
  • Wet/Dry Cat food
  • Cat Litter
  • Dog beds/blankets
  • Dawn Soap
  • Clorox/Lysol Wipes
  • Bleach
  • Towels
  • Laundry Detergent
  • Newspapers
  • Dog/Cat toys
  • Puppy Pads

volunteer at the shelter

We know there is a lot of interest in being a volunteer at the shelter. At this time, we only accept volunteers that are students at Barbers Hill High School. If you are a BHHS student that is interested in volunteering at the shelter, please come by and pick up an application during business hours.
