Three years after launching MB Link, Texas’ first municipally-owned broadband utility, the City of Mont Belvieu celebrated another milestone with its groundbreaking service; bringing the 2000th home onto the network. The Botello family was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by Mayor Nick Dixon, City Manager Nathan Watkins, MB Link Broadband Network Engineer Dwight Thomas, and other city staff for their installation appointment. The Botello Family quickly found out what made this installation special as City officials presented them with a special MB Link gift basket and cake to celebrate the occasion.
“We are so glad to be in Mont Belvieu,” said homeowner Bryan Botello. “And have already heard so many wonderful things about MB Link and the community as a whole.”
“It’s hard to believe that we already have 2000 homes on MB Link. It seems like just the other day they were doing the very first installation at my house,” said Mont Belvieu Mayor Nick Dixon. “This shows me that the decision we made as a council to build this network was the right one. I’m really proud of MB Link and the sense of reliability it’s brought to our residents.”
“Today is another great milestone for MB Link and the City of Mont Belvieu. 2,000 is so much more than a number, It’s the result of the efforts of so many including our City leadership, technical teams, vendors, partners, and the community at large,” said Dwight Thomas, Director of Broadband and Information Technology Service., “While this 2000th install is very exciting, we truly celebrate each person that subscribes to our network. It’s true the network is growing, but its purpose remains the same; We are MB Link, we’re here to serve you, and we’ve built this network just for you!”
In the last three years, MB Link has become the trusted source for internet service in Mont Belvieu. The city-owned and operated data utility now boasts a 75% penetration rate among current residents. The City of Mont Belvieu is now looking at ways to use the network to further enhance the community through various “smart city” initiatives and exploring business options with national telecommunications providers.
